Anferginan

trumpet and percussion in 3 movements – 8'

Anferginan was inspired by Gotfried von Strassburg’s Tristan story of courtly romance. In the part of the story set here Tristan travels to the valley of Anferginan and slays the mighty dragon. The first movement is prelude-like and hopeful as Tristan reaches the beautiful shores (Wexford Bay) in southeastern Ireland. In the middle movement Tristan fights the dragon and defeats the monster that none before him had been able to do. Although Tristan almost died in the fight, the third movement represents the solace he finds in a magic pond that restores his health. Originally composed in 1991, the score was revised in 1992 and updated in 2017.
