Movement 1 features the clarinet in a quasi-sonata form with a few concerto-like elements.  The second and third movements are light in character featuring Latin rhythmic influences and plucked string sounds respectively. The fourth movement slows down for a quiet reflection and the final movement marches wildly in alternating meters of 9/8 and 4/4 building with increasingly frenzied imitative sections to a surprise ending.
